Typical City is the phrase Manchester City fans coined to explain why the club was always cocking up. Knocked out of the FA Cup because there were balloons on the pitch? Typical City. Relegated as reigning champions, the only time in English football history it’s ever happened? Typical City. Wasting time because the manager wrongly thought a draw was enough to stay up… eventually getting relegated because results elsewhere didn’t go their way? Typical City.
In May 2012, needing a win to secure their first top flight title since 1968, City were – of course – losing to relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers in second half stoppage time. Only two late goals from Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero turned it around.
The book Typical City documents the journey from July 2008 to Sunday 13 May 2012, as the Blues complete their rise back to being the best in the country.
